MASS. MED. BLOG: Dr. Kate Atkinson Nails It: The Primary Care Crisis in America

Dr. Kate Atkinson, a family physician and MMS member from Amherst, Mass., is featured in a great story in today’s edition of the Daily Hampshire Gazette.

About 20 primary-care doctors in the Pioneer Valley have bailed out in
the past two years, she said. She’s worried that doctors like her are
“going the way of the dodo bird,” and some patients have called her in
a panic “feeling like I was the last one standing,” she said.

She also offers scathing critiques of the health insurance industry and its impact on patient care.
