Atkinson Family Practice would like to welcome Natasha Campbell to the DragonFly Collaborative team at Atkinson Family Practice. She comes to us with a degree in Social Work from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Fla. and her Clinical Masters in Social Work from Baron University in Miami, Fla.
When Natasha made the move to Massachusetts six years ago, she worked as a case manager on Cape Cod working with Children and Families. Especially children and young adults with substance abuse problems, immigrant children aging out of the foster care system, and youth with severe trauma and mental health.
Natasha has a place in her heart for people who at some time have felt marginalized, rejected, oppressed, discriminated, and need a safe space to explore the psycho-dynamics of their life trials. She says that our community is growing, there is much more diversity happening. She currently works with youth who are in transformation. Youth who are thinking about gender, changing their gender, adoptive families working on the transition, and those who gave birth to bi-racial babies. “There are a lot of adults who are really working through their own identity, gender, race,” and how they are shown in disparities and may come with trauma.
“I think I look at it from a perspective of living in a world and having this body and living in a world and never connecting to who you are. Just always waking up in this complete despair of self. I think just being a black woman in this country, just trying to have to maneuver different spaces, I definitely understand, I can really understand. Who am I? How do I become me? So much more to it. It’s not just the gender and how they physically see themselves, but how they feel, what they start to accept who they are as they start thinking about what transformation looks like for that particular individual.
When she’s not working, Natasha enjoys traveling when she can along with watching Netflix. She is an adjunct professor at the Smith School for Social work in Northampton, Mass. and Elms College in Chicopee, Mass. She is also working on her Master’s of Business Administration degree from UMASS Amherst.
We are happy to have Natasha working at our Northampton location on 6 Hatfield Street on Fridays. If you are in need of therapy services, give our office a call at 413-549-8400 to find out how to see people like Natasha.
