Biography
Dr. Galen Wetterling is a psychiatrist with a strong interest in collaborative medical care. In particular, he is passionate about partnering with patients who struggle with OCD, PTSD, anxiety, and depression, as well as patients with comorbid medical and mental health challenges. He was attracted to Atkinson Family Practice due to our strong interdisciplinary program. Dr Galen is committed to fostering collaborative, team-based care, and applying his leadership skills to support the growth and development of health systems.
Dr. Galen earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from Des Moines University and then studied general medicine as an intern at St. Lucie Medical Center. He completed his psychiatry residency at HealthONE Medical Center of Aurora, where he was selected to serve as the outpatient chief resident. In this role, he mentored residents, revamped the senior resident curriculum, recruited experienced faculty for psychotherapy training, and worked closely with faculty to enhance quality of care. His residency also provided advanced training in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), geriatric psychiatry, dynamic relational psychotherapy, and integrated behavioral health in community health settings. His education also includes a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science from Carleton College and a Bachelor of Science in Micro/Molecular Biology from Portland State University. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Society and the Massachusetts Medical Society.
Prior to joining AFP, Dr. Galen worked at the Eating Recovery Center, where he led a multidisciplinary team treating severe eating disorders across inpatient, residential, and partial hospitalization levels of care. Dr Galen recently moved to Western Massachusetts from Colorado with his wife. Outside of his clinical work, he enjoys hiking, skiing, and tabletop games, and maintains a meditation practice.
